This is a very good question to ask and to answer your question, I need to offer something back information, so bare with me.

Several areas of the hull structure are sealed compartments in the fuel and air must be limited. Some of these areas include fuel tanks, while others consist of a pressure compartment and the cockpit. Since it is impossible to complete these areas with a compound of every rivet, a closure or seal sealed seals are used. Sealants are also exposed to add to the smooth aerodynamic surfaces, such as joints and seams on the wings and fuselage.

Three types of joints are widespread. The rubber seals are installed at every point where the edge of the frequent interference is necessary because the fire exits and entrances. Sealants are used in the points where the seal is broken, rarely, butt joints except for the structural maintenance or replacement parts, as in the womb and rivets. Special joints are necessary to seal cables, pipes, mechanical joints, the son or the areas of pressure or pass.

CertAin areas of all layers are sealed to withstand the pressure air to prevent the spillage of fuel to the passage of gas to prevent corrosion or to prevent the closure of the weather. Most sealants from two or several components well proportioned and bad for the best results. Some materials are ready to be used as packaging, but others require mixing before application.

The internal fuel tanks, like the wings are attached by large aircraft fuel tanks sealed with sealant. It is usually a two-step procedure according to MIL-8802-A2 and cured when it is applied a second coat of MIL-8802B2. Only in the meetings, the leaders of the shop rivets, screws and fasteners are taped Excel in fuel tanks.

NOTE fuel tank does not sprayed with sealant, as indicated above.

Pressure of a region or section is examined before and after repair. Pressurization land fill section is available with air from outside through the pressure of soil testing equipment.

With sections at a pressurecertain pressure, the location of the leak, the suspect outside the aircraft by applying a solution of soap bubbles without seams and joints in the area. Bubbles locate the general area of the leak. A given flight will be heard in the plane from the free end of a stethoscope or similar devices in isolation along the seams in the area of flight. The leak can be achieved by changing the tone when the device goes on to be recognized. I removed the test, the solution to prevent the bladder free from outside the aircraft by washing with clean water to corrosion.

Any fuel leak is an important indication that a surface loads which have broken the seal and open seams to have received,

Sealer sprayed on the interior surfaces of the fuel tank, coating and sealing.
